Allergy Testing & Administration
Allergy testing and administration of injections are services offered by trained medical professionals at Family Medical Center. The staff continues to train to keep the most up-to-date methods available. Back to top.

Casting & Care of Fractures & Sprains
Family Medical Center is equipped to care for fractures and sprains. There are two Radiological Technologists on staff, so x-ray is available almost immediately. Back to top.
Common Skin Disease Treatments
Skin diseases including poison ivy/oak, contact dermatitis, eczema, diaper rash, and rashes can be treated by any of the family doctors at Family Medical Center. Back to top.
Emergency Service
Patients with chest pain, lacerations, foreign bodies, burns, and other injuries receive care by board certified physicians. We have an “Acute Care” room for just such emergencies. Family Planning Exams and Counseling
Each of our family doctors offers gynecological exams and family planning counseling. Dr. Kunz has been trained on Norplant removal. Back to top.
Flight Physicals
Dr. Stephen Mineart is designated as a First Class Aviation Medical Examiner by the FAA, and is a private pilot as well. The FAA has designated Dr. Mineart to perform Class 1, 2, and 3 Medical Exams. All pilots, (student, private, commercial and transport) can be accommodated.
Effective July 1, 2011:
All airmen coming to Family Medical Center for FAA medical certification will be asked to complete the application form 8500-8 online before coming to their appointment. This can be done by opening the FAA website . Under "Licenses and Certificates", choose "Medical Certification", and then the "FAA MedXPress" link. *Remember to bring the Accession Number for the application to the office appointment. Holter Monitoring Services
Holter monitoring for 24-28 hours is another service that is available. This allows patients to have their heart monitored while they carry on their normal activities. Cardiac 30-Day Event Monitoring service is also available. Back to top.
Kids' Clinic
Mornings can be hectic for families getting ready for work and school and things can be even more stressful if your child shows signs of being or getting sick. The Kids' Clinic at Family Medical Center offers peace of mind by providing you an opportunity to have your child examined before going to school or daycare. Kids' Clinic is available Monday through Friday from 8-9 a.m. No appointment necessary. Back to top.
Laboratory Services
Laboratory services continue to be added as technology changes. Family Medical Center continues to update lab equipment and procedures so more testing can be done while the patient is seeing their doctor. We recently added a new Chemistry Analyzer to the lab. PSA, TSH, and Thyroid Testing can now be performed in the clinic with results available within 15-20 minutes.
- Family Medical Center is CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) certified and received 100% on the most recent inspection; no deficiencies were found.
- Lab techs are required to participate in regular proficiency testing to maintain their skills, and all Lab personnel participate in Occupational health as certified collectors. This enables the clinic to offer collections and testing to employers at all times.

Minor Office Surgeries
All our family doctors perform minor office surgeries including: removal of lesions, wart treatment, toenail removals, aspiration and injections of joints, trigger points, and ganglion cysts, removal of foreign bodies, removal of skin tags, incision and drainage of cysts and hemorrhoids, and laceration repairs. Nutrition Counseling
Our doctors and clinical staff conduct nutrition counseling including: diabetic counseling, lowering cholesterol counseling, and weight loss counseling. To ensure a healthy lifestyle, we strive to educate our patients on all health issues. Back to top.
Occupational Health Services
Occupational and safety services are important to the working community. Family Medical Center offers the following services:
- Employment Physicals
- Department of Transportation Physicals
- Employment Drug Screening
- Breath Alcohol Testing
- Audiograms
- Spirometry (PFTs)
"Pre-employment" drug screen testing is one of 5 reasons for performing a DOT drug screen; other reasons include post accident, random, follow-up and return to duty. Trained collectors are available during office hours for both drug screens and breath alcohol testing.
Audiograms (hearing tests) are given along with most occupational physicals where employment may have loud background noise. Spirometry, or PFTs are performed as part of a physical if employment requires the use of respiratory equipment. Additionally, chest x-rays may be performed at pre-employment and on periodic basis for those who are employed in industrial chemical areas or who must wear respirators as part of ongoing employment.
Family Medical Center continues working with employers by visiting job sites, treating employees for work related and personal medical problems. We work closely with employers' safety directors and strive to meet their goals of helping with the newest safety issues. Back to top.
Pediatric Care, Well Child Care & Immunizations
One doctor for mother and baby – it's better for both of you. After delivery, your family doctor is trained and qualified to care for both mother and baby. The well being of mother and baby is interrelated. Choosing a doctor for a newborn is very important decision. It is important to choose a doctor that understands your baby's medical needs as well as yours. Our doctors offer well baby exams with immunizations. We have all the recommended immunizations that the Public Health Department requires for admission to school and college. Back to top.
Prenatal Care, Delivery, & OB Ultrasound
Four of the doctors at Family Medical center continue to provide prenatal care and delivery. They enjoy obstetrics and welcome new expectant patients. They are Doctors Hirl, Mineart, Richmond, and Whitis. OB ultrasound services are done daily at the clinic. Back to top.

The family doctors at Family medical center perform well child physicals, athletic physicals, college entrance physicals, employment physicals, DOT physicals, Flight physicals, life insurance physicals, yearly gynecological physicals, preoperative physicals, and annual male physicals. Back to top.
Substance Abuse Screening Services
Family Medical Center offers a Consortium to area employers. This service includes: NIDA Certified Lab testing fee, Chain of Custody form, testing kit, Medical Review Officer Service, Courier transportation of specimen, collection fee, and GC/MS confirmation Test. Results are reported out to the employer by our MRO within 36-48 hours. Family Medical Center, P.C. complies with all U.S. Department of Transportation Guidelines and Iowa Law for drug screening. Breath alcohol testing, using Draeger Intoxilyzer, is offered during regular office hours. Back to top.
Treatment & Follow-Up of Pap Smears, Colposcopy, Cryotheraphy and LEEP
Family Medical Center doctors are trained in the treatment of abnormal Pap Smears. Dr. Whitis, Dr. Kunz, Dr. Hart, and Dr. Dawson perform Colposcopy and Cryotherapy. Dr. Anne Whitis and Dr. Tony Kunz perform LEEP procedures. Back to top.
