The Emergency Room vs. The Doctor’s Office
Common sense tells us your family doctor’s office is best for non-emergency care. However each year millions of Americans use emergency rooms for routine medical care. Some medical professionals believe emergency room treatment for non-emergency medical conditions is a major contributor to the rising costs of health care.
What is the cost difference?
The average emergency room charge is $1049
while the average physician’s office charge is $153.*
In an emergency, don’t hesitate. Call 911 or go the emergency room at the hospital. But if you feel your condition doesn’t require the emergency room, call your family doctor who is trained to care for most of your health needs.
